  • Notices mailed for tax

    Tax notices were mailed out to Escambia County (Ala.) property owners last Thursday and are due Jan. 3, 2023 to avoid any penalties and fees. By law, property taxes are due Dec. 31, but since Dec. 31 falls on a Saturday the deadline is extended to Monday, Jan. 2. If tax bills are paid through the mail they must be postmarked by Jan. 2 or before to avoid penalties.   • High costs slash College St. plans

    With the price of asphalt, fuel, materials and other items increasing, the Flomaton Town Council voted to cut the repaving of College Street out of its paving projects was to be done through the $250,000 grant received from the state of Alabama using funds from the Rebuild Alabama Act. The town was recently awarded the grant, which requires a $35,000 match from the town.     The Century Town Council had to call a continuance after approving its millage rate Saturday, Oct. 8 at a public hearing to approve both the proposed millage rate and budget for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 when it was discovered a number in the advertised proposed budget was $10,000 off. After the proposed millage rate was approved at the meeting, it was brought up that the budget had not been advertised correctly.
