Two subjects who were forced to make an emergency landing near East Brewton Tuesday afternoon walked away from the crash that caused minor damage to the airplane they were flying.
Escambia County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said the sheriff's office received a call from Air Traffic Control in Pensacola at 1:12 p.m. Tuesday in reference to an airplane that went off the radar, noting the pilot had called for assistance due to engine problems.
Lambert said the location was given as four and a half miles southeast of the Brewton Airport.
Law enforcement and emergency personnel were dispatched to the area and the sheriff's office sent up an aircraft, which was able to locate the downed airplane.
Lambert said the Cherokee P28 single-engine plane, occupied by two subjects, landed in a field at the intersectoin of Woodchuck Road and Travis Road.
Lambert said the occupants of the plane said they were from out of state and both walked away from the crash. Lambert noted the plane suffered minor damage due to hitting a fence.
The case is still under investigation by the Federal Aviation Association.
