Stolen cards lead to arrest

A Brewton man is facing charges in Brewton and Flomaton after allegedly burglarizing a shed in Brewton and using stolen credit cards to make purchases at Walmart in Brewton.

Dennis Wade Maddox, Jr., 29, 358 White Tail Lane, was arrested Monday in Brewton and charged with resisting arrest, providing a false name and fraudulent use of a credit card. He has also been charged by Flomaton police for burglary III and three counts of theft of property.

Flomaton Police Chief Bryan Davis said his office received a call Monday from Patrick Caylor with the Brewton Police Department about credit cards belonging to a Flomaton resident being used at Walmart in Brewton.

When Brewton police arrived at Walmart, Maddox was taken into custody on outstanding warrants.

Davis said Flomaton police went to a residence on Pecan Leaf Lane and learned a shed on the victim's property had been burglarized sometime Sunday. Davis said footprints identified at the scene matched the shoes worn by Maddox while at Walmart.

Davis said apparently after burglarizing the shed, Maddox walked to Little Escambia Baptist Church and caught a ride to Carnley Road in Century and was later driven to Brewton.

Flomaton Detective Chance Thompson went to the Carnley Road residence with Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office deputies and located items reported stolen from the shed in Flomaton.

Maddox was booked into the county jail on $60,000 bond but is being held without bond on failure to appear warrants.
