Town workers to get a bonus

Flomaton council votes to give $10,000 in Christmas bonuses to all of its employees

Full-time town of Flomaton employees will receive a $300 Christmas bonus and part-time employees will receive $150 following an unanimous vote by the Flomaton Town Council Monday night.

Mayor Dewey Bondurant Jr., said the money, about $10,000, will come out of the town's money market account.

“I don't see the reason to give employees a bonus,” said Councilwoman Lillian Dean. Normally in December and January the town is broke. We just gave raises.”

Bondurant noted the council gave employees a very small raise and felt the bonuses would help with moral.

The town has a little more than 30 employees. Part-time employees are designated as those who work less than 24 hours a month.

Councilman Jim Johnson made the motion to approve the bonuses and received a second by Councilman Roger Adkinson. The motion passed unanimously.

In other business Monday the council:

- Reappointed Faye Knowles as the town's representative to the Escambia County Cooperative Library Board.

- Agreed to renew its contract with Revenue Discovery Systems to handle the collection of business license payments in the town.

- Approved a resolution to support the state's efforts to make sure all day care centers in the state are licensed and certified.

- Heard from Councilman Charlie Reardon who said Flomaton resident Karla Ptomey is still having drainage problems behind her house on Wilkerson Street, noting the council had previously told her they would address the problem.

Councilman Buster Crapps said the council promised Ptomey they would address the problem after the problem on Pleasant Street had been addressed, noting it had been addressed.

Mayor Bondurant said it would not be a simple project and he needed to get some figures together to present to the council.
