Richard “Tip” Tarpley, 85, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 following an extended illness.
Mr. Tarpley was born July 28, 1932 in Norwood, Ga. Having attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the University of Georgia, where he received a Master’s Degree, he was a long time resident of Brewton and worked at the local paper mill in the technical department for 37 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Brewton.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 13, at First Baptist Church of Brewton with Revs. John Finklea, Ron Headley, Todd Ray and Cavin Cawthon officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Park in Brewton with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Tarpley is survived by his wife of 63 years, Libby Tarpley; two sons, David (Leigh) Tarpley of Andalusia and Donn (Kelley) Tarpley of Demopolis, Ala.; two siblings, Mell Tarpley of Johnson City, Tenn. and Lucille Toole of Macon, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
