Brewton to host blueberry drop

Brewton will have a snow machine for its annual New Year's Eve Blueberry Drop at Jennings Park, but Mother Nature may take care of the need with temperatures expected to drop into the teens over the New Year's weekend with possible snow flurries in south Alabama.

Bobby Moore and the Rhythm Aces, Will Easley and Karen Cover are the scheduled artists to take the stage beginning at a 7 p.m.

The annual celebration will include dancing in the streets and a kid-friendly atmosphere that hopefully includes a train running through the park.

Free to everyone, the Blueberry Drop will end at midnight with a fireworks show. Bring your lawn chairs, bring your blankets and long underwear and ring and help ring in 2018.

Connie Baggett, director of program management for the city of Brewton, said if the weather is not suitable for an outdoor concert, it will be moved to the Hour Glass.

Rain or snow, the fireworks show and the dropping of the blueberry ball will take place at Jennings Park at midnight.
