New batting cages set for Flomaton

It may be 20 degrees now but Spring is just around the corner. The Flomaton Baseball and Softball Association is working to make this spring better for the hundreds to children and young adults who will soon be flocking to Flomaton-Hurricane Park.

Thanks to an $11,314 grant from Windcreek, the baseball association is building a cover at the park for four batting cages. The cover will include two 55-foot cages and two 70-foot cages to help children of all ages.

Chris Spann, president of the baseball association, said the project will allow the addition of two additional cages at the park.

"It's something we've been working on," Spann said. "The cover will help protect the netting from the weather and make it last longer."

Spann said by time spring weather arrives the batting cages should be complete and ready for use.

"We wanted something for the younger kids all the way up to the high school girls' softball team," he said.

Mayor Dewey Bondurant Jr., praised the association for taking on the project, noting it's a great addition to the park at no cost to the citizens of Flomaton.
