A two-vehicle accident involving an ASAP Simmons ambulance transporting a patient resulted in two injuries, authorities say.
The accident occurred last Thursday evening at 6:40 p.m. near mile marker 29 on AL-21. John Higginbotham, 36, of Franklin was driving the ambulance, a 2007 Chevrolet CT3 with Michael Stanton, 37, of Peterman as an occupant.
Sergeant Derek Gessner with the Evergreen Post of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said Stanton was being transported from Monroe County Hospital in the ambulance as a patient when the accident occurred and was transported back to the hospital after the crash.
Also injured was James Rider, 36, of Monroeville, a passenger in the ambulance, and Brian Patterson, 50, of Bay Minette, the driver of the second vehicle which was a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado.
Gessner said that Stanton did die following the accident, but not as a result of the crash.
Troopers Stephen Sprotte and Jonas Claiborne investigated.
A representative from ASAP Simmons Ambulance could not be reached at press time.
