Flomaton student is suspended after gun is found inside car
A Flomaton High School junior has been suspended and may possibly face expulsion after a hunting rifle and compound bow were found inside his vehicle parked at the high school.
According to reports, this past Monday the school's resource officer Matt Jernigan was making a security check in the parking lot when he saw the gun and bow inside a student's vehicle. The student was identified and the principal was contacted.
Sheriff's office reports note the gun and bow were removed from the vehicle and the student's parents were contacted. The report notes no criminal charges were filed and the gun and bow were turned over to the parents.
Escambia County School Superintendent John Knott said the student involved has been suspended pending the completion of the school system's investigation.
Under the school system's code of conduct the punishment for having a weapon on school grounds is expulsion.
