Marcelete Maxine Hollis Harris

Marcelete Maxine Hollis Harris, 101, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2018.

Mrs. Harris was born Jan. 25, 1916 to John and Roxanna Hollis in Atmore. After graduating from Escambia County Training School, she earned a Teacher's Diploma in 1937 from Alabama Teachers College. She married in 1944 and later returned to get her bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1946. After a short stay in Chicago, she returned to Atmore where she spent more than 40 years as a third and fourth grade teacher. A member of Atmore Garden Club, she was also a member of The Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore for more than 90 years, serving at times as a Sunday School teacher, former youth Choir Director and member of the Missionary Board.

The funeral was held at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 29, at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church. Burial followed at Stallworth Cemetery with Christian Memorial Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Harris is survived by one son, Steven (Linda) Harris; two daughters, Patricia (Wayne) :uckette and Rosalind (Jerrold) McRae; one brother, Steven Theophilus Hollis; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members.

Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Curtis Bell Harris; her parents; siblings, Lula (Earnest) Hunter, Gus (Madline) Hollis, Minnie (Wilbert) Ellis, Blanche (Bryant) Nathaniel, Pauline (Willie) Jones, Nellie (Wick) Lockridge, John Hollis, Alice Hollis, Henry (Marjorie) Hollis and Gertrude (Eugene) Robinson; and other family members.
