Wilbert G. Walker

Wilbert G. Walker, 82, of Atmore, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018 at Atmore Nursing Center.

Mr. Walker was a native of Mobile who relocated to Atmore, where he lived most of his life. A 1955 graduate of Escambia County Training School, he was a U.S. Army veteran who retired as Sargeant from the National Guard with more than 25 years of service. He was employed by A.C. Moore Elementary School, Coca Cola Bottling Company, Samco Products and Winn Dixie.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Gaines Chapel AME Church with Rev. Amos Smith and Rev. Joseph Williams officiating. Burial followed with full military honors at Stallworth Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel directing.

Mr. Walker is survived by his wife of 55 years, mary Frances Walker of Atmore; four sons, Orlando Walker of Silver Springs, Md., Lafeyette (Jocelyn) Walker of Baton Rouge, La., Dempsey (Cametrice) Walker of Pooler, Ga. and Nicholas (Starr) Walker of Fountain, Colo.; one daughter, Melissa (Brian) Harrison of Springdale, Md.; one sister, Geraldine McCloud of Mobile; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members.

Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Wilma Walker; and other family members.
