Dr. John Alwin Vanlandingham

Dr. John Alwin Vanlandingham, 79, of Flomaton, died Wednesday, March 14, at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton.

Dr. Vanlandingham was a native of Marianna, Fla. who had been a member of the Flomaton community since 1974, coming from Ann Arbor, Mich. A 1956 graduate of Milton High School, 1960 graduate of Asbury College and 1970 graduate if the University of Michigan School of Medicine, he was a physician of 46 years. Always in search of ‘eternal studies,’ he read scientific books and enjoyed several hobbies, including motorcycle riding. Of the Methodist and Baptist faiths, he was a member of First Baptist Church of Flomaton.

The funeral was held at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 17, at First Baptist Church of Flomaton with Dr. Tim Tew officiating. Burial followed at Flomaton Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.

Dr. Vanlandingham is survived by his wife of 36 years, Wanda Vanlandingham of Flomaton; two sons, Joshua (Ivy) Vanlandingham of Molino, Fla. and Jared (Partner, Andres) Vanlandingham of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and two brothers, Charles (Marcheta) Vanlandingham of Milton, Fla. and Frank (Genia) Vanlandingham of Geneva, Ala.

Dr. Vanlandingham was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. A.H. and Ernestine Chapman Vanlandingham.
