Ethel D. Lucas

Ethel D. Lucas, 98, of Atmore, died Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Atmore Community Hospital.

Mrs. Lucas was a native of Camden and lived in Atmore most of her life. A graduate of Escambia County Training School, she received her Bachelor and Master's Degrees from Alabama and A and M University. Retiring as a teacher in Escambia County, she taught at Swift, Nokomis, Pleasant Hill, and Canoe Schools. She was a member of Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and member of the Senior Choir and Missionary Society.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 17, at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Hawthorne officiating. Burial followed at Stallworth Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel directing.

Mrs. Lucas is survived by one son, Leo (Catherine) Lucas of Dayton, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lucas was preceded in death by two sons, Robert McGriff and Williams Lucas; her parents, Albert and Savannah Jones; one brother, Willie Cleveland Jones; and two sisters, Lily M. Packer and Corine Hines.
