Mary Lou Hayes Mitchell

Mary Lou Hayes Mitchell, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018.

Mrs. Mitchell was born Dec. 25, 1939 to Joe and Louella Hayes Coleman in McKenzie, Ala. She attended school at George Washington Carver in Century, graduating from high school later. A master seamstress, she retired from Vanity Fair in Atmore after 32 years of service and became a caregiver at TLC Caregivers, Inc. She received her high school diploma at 62 from PJC's night program. A member of Miracle Temple COGIC in Century, she was also a member of Eastern Star ADA Chapter 197.

The funeral was held at 12 p.m., Friday, March 2, at Bethel A.F. M. Church of God with Superintendent Walter Miller officiating. Burial followed at Century Citizens Cemetery with Jackson-McMurray Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by eight children, Shirl A. (Wayne) Whisler of Anaheim, Calif., Edna D. Grice of Pensacola, Josephine Mitchell of Cedar Hill, Texas, Robert E. Mitchell of Panama City, Fla., Rosa A. Mitchell and Latonya R. (Michael) Baldwin, both of Jacksonville, Fla., J. Calvin (Britt) Mitchell of Huntsville and Bessie A. (Ledell) Williams of Walnut Hill, Fla.; five siblings, Annie Mims, Roy Hayes, Diane Darnes, Donald Hayes and Alice Hurst; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and other family members.

Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents.
