AL Power racing event set April 19

Students from across the region will head to Barber Motorsports Park for the seventh annual Alabama Power education event at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19, in the Cocina at the Track tent located in the Fan Zone at Barber Motorsports Park, in advance of this weekend’s Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.

The education event will include representatives from Alabama Power’s Electric Transportation group and Verizon IndyCar Series. Alabama Power experts will discuss electric transportation and how math and science connect to automotive careers.

The Alabama Power education event will provide students with a broader understanding of electric vehicles that produce no emissions and can help reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign oil. Alabama Power continues to be a leader in promoting greener electric transportation and educating customers about the growing number of plug-in electric vehicles on the market.

Charlie Kimball, Verizon IndyCar Series driver of Carlin Motorsport and Ricky Davis, chief mechanic for Chip Ganassi Racing will be the special guests at Thursday’s event. Both will discuss how education has played a role in their career paths.

Alabama Power Hosts Education Event at Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama

After the presentations, students will team up to design, build and race pinewood derby cars, with assistance from Alabama Power engineers. The students will learn how their designs can make a difference in how the cars perform.

Students will also receive gift boxes with two tickets to the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama presented by America’s First. Alabama Power is also providing USB bands that contain information on electric transportation.
