James Harold Strength, Sr., 86, died Thursday, April 12, 2018.
Mr. Strength was born April 16, 1931 to Radford William and Lillie Mae Strength. Following graduation from Flomaton High School, he enlisted in the Air Force, leaving his family's one-mule, two-acre farm, and spent a tour in Europe serving in Communications Operations. Upon home return, he attended a trade school while he worked in Nashville, Tenn. When his employment was terminated as the Korean War ceased, he returned to Flomaton and re-enlisted in the Air Force and attended school in Airborne Radio Maintenance and served a tour in the far East. Upon the tour completion, he returned state side to serve his final active military duty. Accepting work in Communications Maintenance Installations, he retired in 1982 and became active in the Little Escambia Baptist Church.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 16, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Larry Patterson officiating. Burial followed at Flomaton Cemetery with Flomaton Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Strength is survived by his wife, Judy Strength; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces and other extended family members.
Mr. Strength was preceded in death by his son, James Strength, Jr.; his parents; three brothers, Fredrick Strength, Winfred Strength and Ray Strength.
