Council OKs work order requests

In an effort to develop a paper trail and be more efficient, members of the Flomaton Town Council will begin filling out work order requests to be turned in at town hall.

Councilman Buster Crapps said when a citizen comes to a councilman complaining about pot holes, grass or anything else, there needs to be a citizen complaint form.

“Instead of running to town hall we can turn it in at the front office,” Crapps said.

He noted the mayor is the one who can hire and fire, but it's the citizens who can fire the council members.

“The employees don't need six bosses,” Crapps said. “What I want is when Joe Citizen comes to me about grass being knee high I, I fill out a form, date it and turn it in 'requested by Buster Crapps.”

He said he would also like to have the request form copied so the councilman can show when he made the request to address the problem.

The council voted unanimously to approve the new program.

In other business Monday, the council:

- Agreed to spend $1,103 to purchase an AED for the fire department.

- Told Councilwoman Lillian Dean to come back with a cost on her request to install seven or eight benches at Oaks Common Park. She also said the park needs a flag pole.

- Adopted an ordinance to implement the new 'Code of Ordinances' which has been developed by studying and simplifying codes affecting the town for many years.

- Passed a resolution to inform the Alabama Department of Environmental Management on steps that have been taken and will be taken that were pointed out in the Municipal Water Pollution Prevention Program. Those steps include: continuing to repair infiltration when found in the sewer system; continue to monitor the flow; maintain the current level of chlorine gas to control fecal coliform; and to install mechanical aeration.
