Switched tag leads to jail

A Flomaton man pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt and having a switched tag on his vehicle now sits in the Escambia County Detention Center on $15,000 after being arrested on multiple traffic and drug charges.

Travis Lee Salter, 29, 445 Old Fannie Road, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance for methamphetamine and ecstasy, unlawful possession of marijuana II, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, no seatbelt, switched tag, no insurance, driving while license was suspended and a window tent violation.

Flomaton Police Chief Bryan Davis was on patrol about 7:30 p.m. Sunday on Old Fannie Road during the Click-It-Or-Ticket campaign when he observed the driver not wearing a seatbelt. Davis also noted when the ran the tag on the white Jeep Cherokee it came back as belonging to a Chevrolet Blazer.

Davis said he initiated a traffic stop and Salter pulled into the driveway of someone he did not know.

Davis said when he approached the vehicle he detected the odor of marijuana and asked Salter for consent to search his vehicle, which Salter granted.

During the search Davis and Officer Scott Walden found a butane lighter and pipe containing a green leafy material believed to be marijuana beside the driver's seat.

On the ground where Salter was standing, officers found another bag of marijuana. A pat down also revealed a metal container and inside the container officers found a cellophane wrapper containing four ecstasy pills. They also found a clear bag containing about a half of gram of crystal meth.
