Joseph 'Buddy' Carlton Sands

Joseph “Buddy” Carlton Sands, 70, died Thursday, May 31, 2018 in Mobile, Ala.Mr. Sands as born in Key West, Fla. and lived most of his adult life in Atmore. A 1966 Ernest Ward High School graduate, he is, to date, the only All State Linebacker to come out of Ernest Ward High School weighing in at only 155 pounds. A member of the Atmore Church of Christ, he retired from Frontier Communications as the Facilities Supervisor of the Southeastern District, serving a total of 42 years.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 4, at Atmore Church of Christ with Bro. Norman Newberry officiating and Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Sands is survived by his wife, Jean Parsons Sands of Atmore; three daughters, Gia J. Sands of Metairie, La., Jeanna Sands (Villie P.) Encalade of Beaufort, S.C. and Shelley Sands (Joseph) Henderson of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, David C. Roach of McDavid: one sister, Marsha Sands Gibson of Walnut Hill; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.

Mr. Sands was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph R. and Rosa Lee Roach Sands of Bratt, Fla.
