Today (Thursday, July 12) is the last day to apply for an absentee ballot in Escambia County, Ala., for the July 17 Republican runoff.
Circuit Clerk John Robert Fountain said as of Tuesday he had sent out 23 absentee ballots and had received nine ballots back. He also noted that more than half of the nine received were from voters who came to his office and filled out ballots on site.
Absentee ballots must be returned to the circuit clerk's office by June 16 or put in the mail with a postmark of June 16 or earlier.
Escambia County voters who voted in the Republican Primary on June 5 or did not vote in the primary will be allowed to cast ballots Tuesday. If someone voted in the Democratic Primary on June 5, they will not be allowed to vote in the Republican runoff. However, if someone who voted in the Democratic Primary or says they voted in the Republican Primary is not on the voters list, they will be allowed to vote a provisional ballot.
Polls in Escambia County will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for the six Republican runoffs.
Seats on the ballot include:
Will Ainsworth and Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh for lieutenant governor; Troy King and Steve Marshall for attorney general; Brad Mendheim and Sarah Hicks Stewart for associate justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, Place 1; Christy Olinger Edwards and Michelle Manley Thomason for court of civil appeals, Place 1; Rich Anderson and Chris McCool for court of criminal appeals, Place 2; and Gerald Dial and Rick Pate for commissioner of agriculture and industries.
