Sherry Gibbs Morris

Sherry Gibbs Morris, 79, died Thursday, July 12, 2018.

Mrs. Morris was a lifelong resident of Atmore who was a 1956 graduate of Escambia County High School. She later attended the Grady Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and Jefferson Davis Community College where she earned the award of “Super Nurse.” Although her career began at Greenlawn Hospital in Atmore as an emergency room nurse, she also worked with the Escambia County School System as the school nurse for Atmore and outlying areas and later with the Albert P. Brewer Center in Mobile. She concluded her career as a hospice nurse with Seton Home Health in Atmore. A breast cancer survivor of 28 years, she was an advoctae to educate and member of the Atmore Garden Club and Pilot Clubs, serving as the social chairman of the Atmore Country Club for many years. She opened a flower shop, Sherry’s Elegant Flowers, in Atmore, as a master gardener.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 16, at First United Methodist Church of Atmore with Rev. Brennan Peacock officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Morris is survived by three daughters, Tonya (David) Garrett, Tina (Kimble) Grafton and Tara Morris, all of Daphne, Ala.; one brother, Johnny (Julia) Gibbs of Atmore; two sisters, Girdielene (Shine) Snyder of Media, Ala. and Brenda (Robert) Wade of Atmore; four grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and other family members.

Mrs. Morris was precedd in death by her parents, Buford A. and Evelyn Moring Gibbs; one sister, Marcia Chambers; and one grandchild.
