A Brewton woman was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing from her employee, but whether she spends any time behind bars will be determined at a status hearing scheduled for Jan. 9.
Leigh Graves Najor pleaded guilty to two counts of theft of property I and tampering with evidence last Wednesday in Escambia County Circuit Clerk. She was accused of stealing money from her employers at Brewton Insurance and Real Estate Agency.
Circuit Judge Bert Rice sentenced Najor to 240 months with the Department of Corrections on a split sentence. Rice ordered her to spend 60 months in prison, but will review that sentence during the January status hearing. She was also placed on 60 months probation and ordered to pay restitution to Brewton Insurance and Real Estate totaling $66,670.85. The restitution was ordered paid by July 18.
Aggravating factors listed in the sentencing order noted Najor victimized the same business multiple times, served in a fiduciary capacity at the business and caused a large loss to a small business.
In the sentencing order, Judge Rice also noted she is not to have any contact with Brewton Insurance and Real Estate and cannot be in any fiduciary capacity of any other person's finances or assets.
