Brewton Area YMCA, State Representative Alan Baker, State Senator Greg Albritton and the Gulf Coast Resource Conservation and Development (RCD) Council recently announced a $15,000 grant from Gulf Coast RC and D to construct permanent structrues over the dugouts and batting cages.
The permanent coverings were constructed to assist in providing a safer environment for area citizens and athletes at YMCA Sports Park.
Brewton Are YMCA President Steven Dickey said there has been a very positive response to the sprots park upgrades from local residents and out of town visitors.
“We’ve received many compliments from the teams that participate from out of town on what an asset the coverings are to the park as well,” said Dickey.
State Respresentative Alan Baker stated that providing a safe environment for area athletes and citizens is a top priority.
“With the installation of the new park equipment and the assistance of the R,C and D grants, athletes can completely focus on improving their skills and parents can feeel more at ease about the facilities,” said Baker.
Sen. Greg Albritton said he was glad to support this project and was pleased that the Brewton area YMCA took on an aggressive role in improving the sports park.
“Any time you have outdated facilities, it causes a significant impact on recreation and activities,” said Albritton. “I was glad to participate and thankful for the progress that was made.”
Escambia County Commissioner and Gulf Coast R,C, and D Board Member Raymond Wiggins stated that R,C and D has had a long history of supporting projects like the YMCA Sports Park upgrades and thanked the Legislature for partnering with the organization.
“Gulf Coast R,C and D is locally led and we value the input and partnership that we have from our state representatives,” said Wiggins. “It takes a multitude of strong partners to create success.”
The Gulf Coast R,C and D Council is a 501-c3 nonprofit entity that is established and run by volunteers to carry out the mission of the R,C and D. The council is composed of members that are key community leaders in soil and water conservation, government and community development from Baldwin, Mobile and Escambia Counties.
The prupose of the Gulf Coast R,C, and D Council is to provide local leadership in developing and carrying out a plan for the orderly conservation, improvement and development and wise use of natural resources, thereby improving economic opportunities.
