In last week's edition of the Tri-City Ledger, the story dealing with the town of Flomaton's finances, a portion of Councilman Buster Crapps' quote was omitted.
Crapps was referring to a question previously asked by Councilwoman Lillian Dean about other small towns not having the number of police officers Flomaton has.
What Crapps said was, “Do you know why they don't have that many? They don't have the money.”
“That's the reason you don't see them in Century, you don't see them in Jay, you don't see them in Pollard. So every dollar we waste or don't look after we could lose policemen. It takes money.”
“I guarantee you I know what it's like to be without police officers,” Crapps added. “I've been out there, right by myself, patrolling the entire county. But it takes money, You can't put a price on safety and I don't want to, but we've got to look out for every dollar. We've got to make sure we don't lose too many policemen.”
During the meeting, Councilman Jim Johnson noted the police department is down three officers at this time.
Mayor Dewey Bondurant said with the department down to five officers, Chief Bryan Davis is now working a shift.
