Hendricks and Holloway claim Jay council seats

The Jay Town Council will see two new faces this November following Tuesday's municipal election unofficial results, according to Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections.

Candidates Nina Hendricks and Josh Holloway uprooted incumbent David Bush, receiving 95 votes out of a total 123 votes, carrying the two highest out of three.

Councilwoman Jane Hayes and David Bush were appointed to the council to fill Chubby Haveard and now Mayor Shon Owens' empty council seats. Hayes chose not to seek re-election. Both council seat terms end in October 2018.

The unofficial results are: Bush had 22.76 percent with 28 votes; Nina A. Hendricks had 43.90 percent with 54 votes and Joshua Holloway had 33.33 percent with 41 votes, for a total of 123 votes.

There are 363 registered voters in the town of Jay Area, and Tuesday's results showed a 34 percent voter turnout, higher than the average of 26.46 percent voter turnout for the state of Florida.

Villane said that the results so far are unofficial and that Santa Rosa County will actually send the results to the state Sept. 4.
