Jay man facing multiple drug charges

A Jay man who had an active warrant for driving with a suspended license was arrested and now faces drug charges Sunday after a traffic stop and search of the vehicle uncovered marijuana and methamphetamine.

Michael Wayne Horton, 48, 4780 Highway 4, was arrested when a deputy who spotted him driving in Navarre identified him as having an active warrant for driving with a suspended license, according to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office report. The deputy pulled up in his vehicle next to Horton and recognized him and initiated a traffic stop.

The deputy made contact with the suspect and smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The report said the deputy spotted a clear box that contained a green, leafy substance stuffed between the center console and the seat.

The deputy detained Horton and placed him in the back of his patrol car then searched Horton's vehicle. A small bag of marijuana was located inside the center console and a blue pill container that contained a clear crystalline substance was located in back seat, the report stated.

The clear crystalline substance tested positive for methamphetamine.

Horton was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, knowingly driving while license suspended and possession of marijuana under 20 grams and transported to the Santa Rosa County jail, where he was given a bond of $7,500.
