Traffic stop nets drug, paraphernalia

A father and his son were both charged with misdemeanor drug possession and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center after Flomaton Police Chief Bryan Davis determined neither had the ability to drive their vehicle safely.

John Anthony Majors, 39, 1987 Rockhill Road, Wing, and Hunter Austin Majors, 18, 140 Bigsley Road, Brewton, were both arrested following a traffic stop Sunday night.

Chief Davis said he observed a Nissan Altima near Fannie Church Road and Twin Bridges Road at 9:27 p.m. with the windows down and neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. He initiated a traffic stop on Highway 31.

Hunter Majors was driving the vehicle and had no identification. Davis said he saw two packages of beer in the back seat with one package open. He asked Hunter Majors to exit the vehicle and when he got out Davis observed a blue pill bottle next to the seatbelt on the driver's side. After asking what was inside the bottle, John Majors gave it to Chief Davis and inside he found a small amount of marijuana.

Davis said he asked John Majors to exit the vehicle and reported that he appeared to be extremely intoxicated.

The chief reported that while he was patting him down for weapons, John Majors said “I guess you found my marijuana.” Davis then found marijuana and rolling papers in John Majors' pocket.

He also reported that Hunter Majors told him he had been smoking marijuana earlier.

John Majors was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana II, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, no seat belt and not having a driver's license in his possession.
