ECHS takes victory in rivalry matchup

It won't show up in the record book. It was a prison 'jamboree' between T.R. Miller and Escambia County High School in Atmore Friday night that saw the Blue Devil's varsity defeat the Tigers' varsity 16-7 in the first half of the game.

Escambia County High School Principal had made a promise to his football players that if they could defeat T.R. Miller he would have the Blue Devil pitchfork carved in his hair on the side of his head.

Fuqua lived up to his promise Monday as barber John Helm carved the logo on the side of his head while several of the Blue Devil players watched.

"I first said it as a joke," Fuqua said. "They didn't take it as a joke. So I lived up to my word and had it done."

After T.R. Miller's varsity scored with 7:15 left in the first quarter and missed the extra point, Malik Brown returned the ensuing kickoff for Escambia County 80 yards for a touchdown to electrify the home-standing Atmore crowd.

The real season begins this week when Escambia County travels to Wilcox Central and T.R. Miller hosts Choctaw County.
