NHS wins in 14-7 defensive slugout

It was the tale of two defenses Friday night in Bratt as Northview faced off against South Walton winning 14-7 on the gridiron. The Chiefs were on the hunting ground after losing to the Seahawks 25-18 in last year's match-up and coming off a blowout loss to Flomaton in last week's game.

On their first drive of the game, the Seahawks drew first blood by running in a touchdown and kicking a successful PAT bringing the game to 7-0.

Not long for suffering, the Chiefs fired back with a touchdown run by Trent Kite (9) with 4:54 left in the first quarter. Northview failed to tack on points with a PAT and the game stalled out at 7-6.

In a completely scoreless second quarter, both teams defenses stood up to keep the ball out of the end zone. The Chiefs' headed into the locker room with a one point lead at the half.

In the third quarter, the Chiefs' defense went into high gear when senior Lance McLaughlin (52) got a quarterback sack in the end zone earning a safety. With 9:31 left to go in the third, Northview led 8-7.

Kite saw action again by running in the ball after an almost 100-yard scoring drive with 39 seconds left in the third. The Chiefs failed to tack on more points with a PAT but were in the lead 14-7.

After holding the Seahawks to a scoreless second half, Northview capped off the game when McLaughlin made an interception with 1:40 left on the clock in the fourth quarter. The offense played out the clock and the Chiefs held the victory with a 14-7 win.

Northview's record moves to 2-1 as they take to the road and play Bountstown on Fri., Sept. 14. In the last matchup between the Chiefs and the Tigers, Blountstown won 59-13. With the Chiefs' looking to keep their momentum going, kick off will be at 7:00 p.m.
