McLellan celebrates 101 years

Brewton woman says good, clean living helped lead to long life

Brewton resident Louie McLellan said living a good, clean life is why she's still living the good life at 101 years old.

Friends and family gathered Saturday afternoon at Country Place Senior Living to help Mrs. McLellan celebrate her 101th birtday.

Born and raised in Greenville, she met her husband Malloy while working at the river mill. They were married when she was 17-years old and moved to Brewton. She is a member of the First Baptist Church in Brewton.

"I never expected to live this long," Mrs. McLellan said. "I've lived a good, clean life and I've never been in trouble."

She said her husband was from Brewton and when the C.C. Camp in Greenville disbanded, they came back to Brewton.

"I'm looking forward to it," Mrs. McLellan said last week prior to her birthday party. "I don't have much family left."

She said she had three sons, two have died and her son George is in a nursing home.

"I've got grandchildren, great grandchildren and a lot of nieces and nephews," she said.

Mrs. McLellan said she's seen a lot of changes over the years and have enjoyed all of them.

"Hopefully we'll be able to come back and do this next year," she said.
