Want to win some cash? How about a new recliner from Barrows Furniture? Or are you just looking for a fun-filled day of arts, crafts, entertainment and good food? The place to be is in downtown Flomaton this Saturday for the annual Railroad Junction festival.
The festival officially kicks off at 9 a.m. with Mayor Dewey Bondurant Jr., leading the opening ceremony, followed by the pledge of allegiance and accompanied by the Flomaton High School ensemble band. The festival will run until 3 p.m.
The day's activities will actually kickoff at 7 a.m. with a 5-K run sponsored by the First Baptist Flomaton Youth Ministry. The entry fee is $30 and registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. at the church.
The Friendship Volunteer Fire Department is still taking pre-orders for smoked Boston butts that will be on sale at the festival. The cost is $30. To pre-order call 251-363-3408, 251-236-1483 or 251 363-3274. Butts will also be available for sale Saturday without pre-orders.
The antique car show will kickoff at 9 a.m. Registration to enter a vehicle is $25. For more information, call Glenn Freeman at 251-809-2180.
As of Wednesday, 45 vendors have registered for Railroad Junction Day with plenty of arts, crafts and food. A children's play area will also be on site.
Entertainment will kickoff on the stage next to the post office at 9 a.m. with Kris Stewart providing the sound equipment. Sawmill Bluegrass will perform from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., followed by Leslie Johnson's Twirlers from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Music by Ricky Crook will be on the stage from 12 noon to 3 p.m.
People interested in the cash giveaways can pick up their registration cards at the Flomaton Welcome Center. To be eligible to win, cards will have to be stamped at Barrows Fine Furniture, at the train display at Flomaton Town Hall and at the WPFL radio booth.
A $250 drawing will take place at 11 a.m. and another $250 will be given away at 12 noon. At 2 p.m. A $500 drawing and recliner from Barrows will be drawn.
Winners of the antique car show will be announced at 2 p.m. at the main stage.
Turtle Point Environmental Center will also be hosting an open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is no admission and the recently renovated boardwalk is open to take a trip through nature.
