Lillie Mae Boykins Simmons, 72, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018.
Mrs. Simmons was born May 20, 1946 to Julius and Mary Lelia Boykins in Atmore, Ala. and attended Escambia County Training School. When she lived in Pahokee, Fla., she was a member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church for more than 30 years. After returning to Atmore, she attended Greater Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church, where she had attended as a youngster.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center with Bishop Catadro North officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery with Robinson-Christian Memorial Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by five children, Rose Simmons and Trena Boykins, both of Atmore, Lawrence Boykins of Minneapolis, Ramona (Willie) of Orlando and Anthony (Audrey) Boykins of Ft. Lauderdale; one brother, Jimmy (Ruby) Boykins of Herndon, Va.; three sisters, Mary Ann Boykins of Glen Cove, N.Y., Shirley (Leon) Polnitz of Pensacola and Janet Williams of Atmore; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Boykins and Mary L. Rothschild Williams; two brothers, Eddie Rothschild and Julius Boykins, Jr.; one grandchild; and other family members.
