The Jay council approved both the new water and wastewater rates Monday night with a plan to review them annually and the new millage rate unanimously.
Residents located inside the city limits of Jay will pay a base rate of $20.25 for water and an additional $7.45 per every 1,000 gallons above the first 2,000 gallons used. Sewer will cost $21.21 and an additional $8.42 per every 1,000 gallons used above the first 2,000 gallons used.
For businesses located inside the city limits of Jay, the base rate for water is $41 and $8.42 for every 1,000 gallons above the first 4,000 gallons used. The base rate for sewer is $43 and $9.40 per every 1,000 gallons above the first 4,000 gallons used.
Residents located outside the Jay city limits will pay for water a base rate of $25.25 and an additional $9.30 per every 1,000 gallons above the first 2,000 gallons used. Sewer will cost $26.50 with an additional $10.50 per every 1,000 gallons above the first 2,000 gallons used.
Businesses located outside the Jay city limits will pay a water base rate of $51.25 with an additional $10.50 per every 1,000 gallons above the first 4,0000 gallons used. Sewer will cost a base rate of $53.75 with an additional $11.75 per every 1,000 gallons above the first 4,000 gallons used.

The resolution was read publicly twice and in a motion made by Mayor Shon Owens and seconded by Councilman Wayne Godwin, the motion carried.
In other business, the council also approved:
-To buy a new ice machine for the Linda Carden Community Center for $2,800 following discussion that to fix the current 13-year-old model would cost $700, and the intent to sell it.
-A resolution that sets the Fiscal Year 2018-19 budget at $1,186,144, down from FY 2017-18's total budget of 2,197,982.
-A resolution that adopts the final millage rate of 2.5 mills, up from 2 mills, a rolled-back rate of 25.57 percent.
