Two of four bodies recovered from flash flood identified as Flomaton residents; last body found not yet identified
Four bodies have been found in Texas following the Oct. 8 flashflood that engulfed an RV park on the banks of the Llano River in Junction, Texas.
Officials have identified the bodies as Joseph Huss and Mike McGee of Flomaton and Davin Hartman of San Angelo, Texas. According to Texas officials, a fourth body was located Tuesday afternoon in the Colorado River more than 90 miles away from the RV park. As of Wednesday morning, a positive identification had not been made.
Apparently mistakes in identifying bodies by Texas officials sent what was believed to be Joseph Huss' body to a Brewton funeral home last week. However, a body found Saturday was later positively identified as Huss. The mistake has been corrected.
As of Wednesday, Flomaton resident Charlotte Moye is still considered missing as officials waited to positively identify the body found Tuesday afternoon.
Charlotte Moye, Joseph Huss and Mike McGee, along with other Flomaton residents Todd Shultz, Darlene Huss and Janet Shultz, were staying at the campground in Junction when the floodwaters swept through the park early on Oct. 8.
Todd Shultz and Darlene Huss were rescued early as the floodwaters toppled RVs and vehicles sending them down stream. Janet Shultz was rescued about 20 to 25 miles downstream of the park when officials found her clinging to a tree on the edge of the river.
Kimble County, Texas, Sheriff Hilario Cantu said as many as a 100 people have been rescued from the flooding along the Llano River. Although officials had originally said only four people were unaccounted for the day after the flooding, there could be others.
Rescue attempts were hampered by rushing water and more flooding that occurred over the weekend.
Craver's Funeral Home in Brewton is in charge of arrangements for Joseph Huss. Arrangements had not been made as of press time Wednesday. To get that information either call 251-867-6031 or visit their website.
