A Century man pulled over for speeding Tuesday night on Upper Creek Road ended up in the Escambia County Detention Center on drug charges after a sheriff's deputy smelled marijuana when he approached and a pipe fell out of his pocket when he exited the vehicle.
Michael Watson, 36, 220 Wood St., was arrested Oct. 30 and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He has been released on $3,000 bond.
According to Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office reports, Deputy Sam Weeks initiated a traffic stop on Watson's vehicle on Upper Creek Road about 8:40 p.m.
When he approached the vehicle the deputy reported smelling the odor of marijuana. The reports states Deputy Weeks asked Watson if he had anything illegal in his vehicle and the responded 'no'.
Weeks then asked for permission to search his vehicle and Weeks said 'yes'. He was asked to step out of the vehicle and when he did a glass pipe fell out of his pocket and hit the ground. Weeks reported Watson tried to step on it.
During a pat down, Weeks discovered a silver container on Watson that contained marijuana.
