East Brewton woman facing drug charges

An anonymous tip to the East Brewton Police Department that a woman walking down Andrew Jackson St., on Nov. 8 was carrying methamphetamine ended in a drug arrest after the woman attempted to hide the illegal drugs.

Krystal Dawn Moffett, 36, 202 Schad St., East Brewton, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to East Brewton Police Sgt. Paige Howell, he received the tip that Moffett was carrying drugs and responded to the area. He said he pulled up and detained her for investigative purposes and asked if she had anything illegal in her possession and she said, “No”.

Howell stated he called for a female officer to conduct a search of Moffett but before the officer arrived he saw Moffett try to hide something under her shoe. He stated Moffett had dropped the meth to the ground and attempted to step on top of the drugs. He also reported he discovered digital scales and needles inside her purse.

She was arrested and transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and later released on $5,000 bond.
