Donald Eugene “Donnie” Darby, 70, of Castleberry, Ala., died Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 after an extended illness.
Mr. Darby was born in Loxley, Ala. and had lived in Castleberry a long time, having lived in both Georgetown, Ga. and Bryson City, N.C. A member of the 1967 Conecuh County High School class, he attended Reid State College, served in the U.S. Air Force and later worked as an electrician at Georgia Pacific.
The funeral was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 23, from the chapel of Craver's Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Peavy officiating. Burial with full military honors followed at Buffington Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Darby is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Ryals Darby of Castleberry; one son, Don (Cindy) Darby of Castleberry; three daughters, Mechele Baker of Castleberry, Kathy (Greg) Shehan of Uriah, Ala. and Tina (Mitchell) Riley of Evergreen, Ala.; one brother, Eddie Darby of Robertsdale, Ala.; one sister, Virginia Darby Norton of Robertsdale; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Darby was preceded in death by his parents, Holland and Laura Darby; and two brothers, Hubert Shipp and Martin Darby.
