Three face drug charges

East Brewton police continue its crackdown on illegal drugs with the arrest of three people in separate incidents with two involving the possession of methamphetamine.

Sgt. Paige Howell said he was heading home about 11 p.m. Tuesday when he observed some vehicles lights under the bridge near Riverview and went to see what was going on. Howell said police have had problems in the past of illegal drug activity under the bridge.

When he approached the vehicle he encountered two females who told him they had stopped to go to the bathroom. When he asked if there was anything illegal in the vehicle they replied no. His K-9 alerted on the vehicle and he recovered about 2 grams of meth and digital scales. The driver, identified as Kimberly Susan McGhee, 47, 101 Maddox St., East Brewton, then admitted she had marijuana in her purse.

McGhee was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana II and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. No bond had been set by press time Wednesday.

On Nov. 28, Charles Edward Kibler, 43, 75 Woodchuck Road, Brewton, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana II following a traffic stop.

Officer Brandon Melear pulled Kibler over for no tag light and learned his license was suspended. The K-9 alerted on the vehicle and Melear found a small bag of marijuana in the ash tray.

A tip led Sgt. Howell to arrest William Douglas Williams, 62, 315 Helen St., Brewton on unlawful possession of a controlled substance charge or meth.

Howell reported he received a tip that Williams was trying to get rid of 3 grams of meth and initiated a traffic stop on Travis Road. The officer reported he saw Williams toss a bag from the window of the vehicle as he pulled over. He said he retrieved two bags that each contained 1 gram of meth.
