Gunman robs ABC store and attacks clerk
The Atmore Police Department and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is seeking the public's help in identifying a lone gunman who robbed the Atmore ABC store Friday afternoon and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash after striking one of the store's employees.
Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said the man entered the store, located on Highway 21, about 5 p.m. Dec. 21 armed with a handgun and demanding cash. Brooks said the store had two employees and four customers when the robber entered the store.
Brooks noted one of the clerk's in the store was hit over the head with the gun before the robber fled on foot. The clerk was taken to Atmore Community Hospital where he was treated and released.
Tracking dogs from Fountain Prison tracked the suspect to an adjacent parking lot where the scent was lost. Police believe a vehicle was waiting at the spot where the dogs lost the trail.
Brooks identified the suspect as being a black male about 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds. He said the suspect was dressed in black and was fully masked and wearing gloves.
Anyone with information concerning the robbery is asked to call the Atmore Police Department at 251-368-9141 or their nearest law enforcement agency.
