A Century man is facing felony drug charges after deputies made contact with the him about a cracked windshield on the car he was driving and discovered his license had been suspended in 2014 and a search of his vehicle revealed marijuana, spice and drug paraphernalia Jan. 9.
Daryl Lamar Brown, 50, 131 W. Highway 4, was traveling east on Front Street when deputies noticed a cracked front windshield, according to an Escambia County Sheriff's office report. When Brown proceeded to 901 Freedom Road, entering the Camellia Gardens Apartment, where his girlfriend resided, deputies made contact with Brown about the windshield and requested his driver's license, which he said was in his girlfriend's apartment, the report said.
Upon contact with Brown, a deputy smelled the odor of marijuana from either Brown or his vehicle. An in-car computer check revealed Brown had an outstanding warrant for failure to register as a sex offender or predator and that his license had been last suspended in October of 2014, the report said.
Once Brown was in custody, the deputies searched Brown's Ford Focus and located a black nylon bag sitting on the floor behind the passenger seat containing marijuana and one bag that contained spice. Inside one of the bags that contained marijuana, there were 15 small baggies ready for immediate sale and plastic bag that contained nine individual bags of spice ready for immediate sale, according to the report.
Brown was arrested and charged with felony synthetic narcotics with intent to sell and possession of marijuana with the intent to sell, transported to Escambia County Jail and given a total bond of $7,000.
