Ernest Ward Middle School 7th Graders Kelsey Boykin and Judson Lee placed for their individual Science Fair Boards and Interview Presentations in the 2019 Annual West Panhandle Regional Science and Engineering Fair at UWF.
Boykin’s chemistry board, entitled Rainbow of pHacts, won 1st place overall, in the junior division. Boykin receives the Dr. B.H. Daughdrill special award, $50 cash and a certificate, the Dr. John P. Riehm Memorial special award, $50 cash and a certificate, the Society for Science and the Public-Broadcom Foundation Special Award, which includes a certificate, letter of invite to register for 2019 Broadcom Masters national competition and a T-shirt.
Selected finalists of the competition will win $500 and an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. from October 25 through 30, 2019, for the Broadcom Masters finals.
Each of the finalists' schools will receive $1,000 and teachers of semifinalists also receive special awards.
State Fair Finalists will be representing Ernest Ward Middle School at Lakeland, Fla. from March 26 through March 29, 2019.
Judson Lee took 3rd place overall in the junior division for his Engineering and Material Sciences, entitled ‘Which Shape Parachute is Best?’.
Lee receives the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International special award, a $25 gift card and a certificate and an REMG Aviation Special Award, $25 gift card and a certificate.
Boykin and Lee are now eligible to compete at the 64th State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida in Lakeland from Tuesday, March 26 through Thursday, March 28, 2019.
