Gaetz to visit Jay, Century

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz will be in Century and Jay today (Thurs.) hosting an open day event, visiting various venues in each town starting at 11 a.m.

The first stop for Gaetz will be at Jay High School where Santa Rosa County School Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick and school administration as he visits classes to meet with students and teachers.

Then at 12 p.m., he will be at the Royal Cafe at 5059 S. Alabama St. to host a legislative luncheon with invited officials before stopping at the Terrace at Ivy Acres Assisted Living Community located at 3995 Florida Ave. at 12:45 p.m. to visit with staff and residents.

The congressman will begin his Century tour at 1:30 p.m. at Century Town Hall on Highway 29 where he will host a legislative round table with Town of Century officials and the Century Chamber of Commerce.

The next stop will be back in Jay at 2:30 p.m. at the Escambia River Electric Cooperative (EREC) at 3425 Highway 4 in Jay to meet with the leadership team and staff as well as take a tour of the facilities.

Next, Gaetz will visit Jay Oil Field in Jay at 4 p.m. to tour the oil field and meet with the leadership team before he makes his final stop at the Linda Carden Community Center at 5259 Booker Lane at 6 p.m. tonight to host a Town Hall event. Residents are encouraged to come meet and speak with Gaetz and have their voice heard and questions answered.

All stops are open to the press but access will be limited at EREC and the oil field due to safety regulations and exposure to proprietary information.

“Rep. Gaetz has made it a point to visit every portion of his district,” said Gaetz Press Secretary Luke Ball. “We want to insure we go to Jay and Century because it is a priority to visit every area. I think Jay and Century are the only areas we did not hit because there was a government shutdown and we had to stay in Washington. People shouldn't have to go to Washington to meet the people, they should have the opportunity to meet their elected officials where they live. He has made it a point to hold as many events in the district as possible. In the past congress, he was one of handfuls of members who had the most number of town hall events in the district. We had 65 open Gaetz days in the 115th congress including six radio town halls, 18 town halls and 29 round tables.
