With no opposition, the Escambia County (Ala.) Commission unanimously voted Monday to vacate the last three-tenths of a mile of Stallworth Memorial Drive at the request of the property owners who own all land adjacent to the road.
The commission held a public hearing Monday with nobody voicing concerns for or against the closure.
In other business Monday, the commission:
- Appointed Commissioner Karean Reynolds as its appointment to the Community Action Agency of South Alabama.
- Approved a $138,000 grant from the Alabama Department of Transportation to make safety improvements to County Road 4 that includes center lines and additional signage near curves. County Engineer Bill Bridges said the grant requires a 10 percent match from the county.
- Approved deeming a 2004 Ford Grand Victoria in the sheriff's office's fleet as surplus property to be sold to the highest bidder.
- Approved Commissioner Scottie Stewart as the commission's representative to the Gulf Coast Resource Conservation and Development Council.
