Jay's Nathan Archer allowed one run on one hit in five innings and struck out 11 to lead the Royals to a 5-1 win over Flomaton Friday afternoon at Flomaton.
Flomaton's Jackson Steele had the only hit on the day for the Hurricanes when he delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the third to score Alex Cash, who led off the inning with a walk.
Flomaton will be back in action today (Thursday) when the Hurricanes travel to T.R. Miller for a 4 p.m. game. T.R. Miller will come to Flomaton Friday with the junior varsity playing at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6 p.m.
This past Friday, Jay scored single runs in the first, second and third to take a 3-0 lead.
Dutch Burkhead led off the game by getting hit by a pitch and moved to second on a passed ball. He later scored on an RBI single by Trace Seib.
In the top of the second, Jay's Trevor Flowers led off the inning with a double and scored on Bryce Cook's RBI double to make the score 2-0.
After one out in the top of the third, Seib reached first on a dropped third strike and later scored on Flowers' RBI single.
Flomaton's lone run came in the bottom of the third when Cash walked, stole second and reached third on an error before Steele delivered the RBI single.
The score remained 3-1 until the top of the seventh. Burkhead led off the inning with a single and back-to-back errors allowed Josh Majors and Seib to reach base. Blayne Miller doubled to score Burkhead and Majors.
On the day, Flomaton had one run on one hit and committed four errors. Jay scored five runs on nine hits and committed one error.
Cook and Flowers led the Hurricanes with two hits each.
Archer took the win for the Royals in five innings of work and Majors allowed on runs on no hits in two innings of relief.
Joseph O'Bannon took the loss for the Hurricanes, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings.
