Suspects face drug charges by police
A complaint call and three traffic stops led to Flomaton police sending four people to jail on drug charges.
On March 16, Flomaton Police Chief Bryan Davis pulled over a vehicle traveling 75 mph in a 25 mph zone on Highway 113 that led to the arrest of Ruth Ann Anderson, 57, from Winston Salem, N.C., for marijuana possession.
According to police reports, Davis said he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle following the traffic stop and Anderson admitted to smoking marijuana about an hour earlier. She then handed the chief some marijuana cigarettes that were in her pants. He also said there was about a quarter ounce of marijuana in a suitcase in back of the vehicle.
She was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana II, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia for a grinder and pipe and was also issued a citation for speeding.
Willie A. Bailey, 63, 58 Denny Circle, Brewton, was arrested March 18 for unlawful possession of a controlled substance (spice) following a traffic stop initiated by Officer Derrick Hodges.
According to reports, Hodges initiated the traffic stop at 7:25 p.m. on Sidney Manning Boulevard for failure to signal. He reported smelling the odor of alcohol when he approached the vehicle and received consent to search. He reported finding an open container of beer and spice wrapped in a tin foil wrapper in the front center console.
In addition to the drug charge, Hodges was charged with having the open container of alcohol and issued a citation for failing to signal.
On March 19 at 9:21 p.m. Officer Hodges responded to 1160 Martin Luther King Drive, Flomaton, in reference to a woman claiming her granddaughter had stolen money from her.
Hodges received permission to search the granddaughter's belongings and found marijuana that led to the arrest of Shakenvia M. Taylor, 20, 1160 Martin Luther King Drive.
According to the report, Taylor admitted to stealing the money and going to Brewton to buy drugs. She was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana II. The grandmother refused to press charges over the stolen money.
Brandon Lee Crook, 36, 535 Lewis Lane, Brewton, was arrested on March 20, on marijuana charges after being pulled over for having no tag light.
Officer Hodges made the stop near the intersection of Highway 31 and Palafox at 12:09 a.m. and reported smelling marijuana when he approached the vehicle. He asked Crook if he had anything illegal in the car and reported Crook handed him a marijuana cigarette.
Crook was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana II and issued citations for driving while license was suspended, failure to have insurance and improper lights.
