$1 million bond for trafficking

Flomaton man arrested after police officer finds 30 grams of meth, spice and prescription pills

A Flomaton man pulled over for having a switched tag on his vehicle was jailed on drug trafficking charges after police found about 30 grams of methamphetamine inside his vehicle.

Bennie Lee Lucas, 30, 1019 Old Fannie Road, was arrested April 3 and charged with three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance (meth, spice and Subuxone), trafficking meth and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Lucas was also issued citations for driving while license was suspended, having a switched tag and having no proof of insurance. Police also noted he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Mobile County.

Captain Chance Thompson was on patrol shortly before 6:30 p.m. last Wednesday when he saw a black GMC pickup truck come out of an area where a black pickup truck had previously fled from Police Chief Bryan Davis.

Thompson reported he ran the tag number through the computer and it came back registered to a different type of vehicle so he initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Junction Road and VanHoosen Road.

Thompson said Lucas appeared extremely nervous when he approached the vehicle and asked for and was given consent to search. Thompson said he then found the meth, spice and prescription pills.

Thompson said Lucas told him he was headed to the Holt Subdivision when he was pulled over.

Lucas was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton and jailed on $1 milliion bond.
