County OKs vacating roads

With no opposition during a public hearing Monday, the Escambia County (Ala.) Commission unanimously voted to vacate Pine Street, Montgomery Street and Camp Street in Pollard.

County Engineer Bill Bridges said the roads in question were deeded county rights-of-way but had never been developed.

Commissioner Scottie Stewart, who represents the district, said he has received no calls or objections to vacating the roads once it was advertised.

In other business Monday, the commission:

- Authorized the sell of six vehicles owned by the sheriff's office after deeming them surplus property. The vehicles will be sold by bids at govsdeal.com.

- Appointed Al Holley to fill the unexpired term of Alexis Maloy on the Escambia County Health Care Authority. Maloy previously resigned her position on the board.

- Voted to turn community corrections and the court referral officer programs over to the sheriff's office.
