Flomaton's youth baseball, softball season kicks off
Youth baseball and softball kicked off its 2019 season Saturday in Flomaton with a full day of games designed to not only begin the season but to serve as a fundraiser to make money to pay umpires and cover other expenses.
John Fowler, president of Flomaton's Cal Ripken League, said Flomaton had 142 children ages 4 to 12 sign up for this year's season, which will run through the end of May.
"We had a great turnout Saturday," Fowler said. "People were at the park all day long."
Flomaton has four T-ball teams for children ages 4 to 6; two boys machine pitch teams for children ages 7 and 8; one girls machine pitch team for girls ages 7 and 8; two kid-pitch boys teams for ages 9 and 10; two kid-pitch teams for girls 9 and 10; one boys major league baseball team for ages 11 and 12; and one girls major league softball team for girls ages 11 and 12.
