Preschoolers at Flomaton's First Baptist Day Care got to explore right in their back yard, Thursday, April, 11, on a field trip to Turtle Point Science Center which is also located within Flomaton's town limits. Turtle Point's director, Jackie Word, opened the minds of the kids to new wonders in science when she explained the life cycle of butterflies, guided the kids on a nature walk through the center and introduced some local wildlife with a hands-on experience.
The preschoolers began their trip with learning about butterflies when they got the chance to release them within the enclosed butterfly cage located at the facility. With the sun shining, the kids were able to walk down the newly renovated boardwalk as Word pointed out various seeds, animal footprints, bird calls and frog chirps. Following the nature excursion, the children were led back to the conference room where Word introduced a box turtle, a king snake named Pork Chop and a baby alligator all of which the kids were able to touch feel the differences in the repile's scales. After the fun-filled, educational morning, preschoolers were treated to a picnic lunch before going back to the Day Care for a much needed nap.
