A season of 'firsts' continue for the 2018 Flomaton High School football team which won the school's first football state championship Dec. 6, with a 23-15 win over Piedmont at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn.
Two seniors on that team, Devonta Bradley and Bailey Bass have been selected to play in the Alabama High School Athletic Association's North-South All Star game July 19 at Crampton Bowl in Montgomery.
Head coach Doug Vickery said Bradley and Bass are the first Flomaton football players to be selected to play in the all-star game.
“It's quite an honor,” Vickery said. “They were nominated by other coaches in the south region.”
Vickery said 46 players from Classes 1A through 7A were selected for both teams, the North and the South.
“It's another first for this year's team,” Vickery said.
Vickery called Bradley a utility player, noting he played running back, slot receiver, defensive back and also returned kicks.
“He could do it all,” Vickery said of Bradley.
Bass made the team as an inside linebacker and will be in charge of calling the defensive plays for the South team in the All Star game.
“Bailey was a real leader for us on defense,” Vickery said. “He was moved from end to the middle and did a great job.”
Vickery said the players will be in Montgomery a week before the game to practice.
